The PTA show hit the road in 2014 with many great local and regional shows, as well as two tours of Europe which saw us play at Panorama Bar, Renate, and Farbfernseher in Berlin, Nonline in London, and Le Bootleg Club in Bordeaux, France.

We had our music covered by many publications including Resident Advisor, SPIN Magazine, DJ Mag, Mixmag, Six Axle, Pittsburgh Magazine, XLR8R, Little White Earbuds, and more.

And on top of all of that, we were hustling full time all year long on a variety of other projects that will see the light of day in 2014: Model Human 12″ on PGHTRX, the debut record by Raw Ten – our collaboration with Nic Offer of !!!, a number of sick releases forthcoming on LWYF by artists both known and unknown, a PTA remix of Lux & Edwards’ “I’ve Still Got Sunshine” for Young Robots, the first PTA album, and some other big projects that must remain unnamed for now.

In just two years, Pittsburgh Track Authority have put out a veritable slew of releases, the standard of which belies the trio’s short time stamping its name on records. For the most part, it’s been classic (but not retro) and catholic in its tastes, drawing variously from synth-soaked Detroit techno, soulful New York house, broken beat (particularly where it fades into U.K. garage), and R&B (just check their divine bootleg of Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight”). Their new EP for Berlin’s Work Them flips the script considerably, particularly on the title cut, which rolls out a rolling, grinding drum-machine groove perfectly in keeping with the group’s railroad-inspired name — a winding winter journey in all greys and whites, marked by the occasional explosion of chugging snares or cloud of foggy reverb.

Pittsburgh Tracks 003
Artist: Pittsburgh Track Authority
Catalog No: PGHTRX-003 Format: 12” EP
Available: September 2013

After a year away, label heads Pittsburgh Track Authority return to their own imprint with a new four track EP. This time they harness the energy of their live set by inviting percussionist Cottrell into the studio to add his flavor to tracks that were written for their live performance.

A1. Allegheny Acid 01
Features the 808 alongside the 303, with a half time breakdown and filtered snare pattern that bring the energy level higher.

A2. Allegheny Acid 02
Strips it down further, with the subtle timing shift of the acid and the thumping 909 augmented with Cottrell’s percussion for a minimal banger.

B1. Nonlocked
Takes things in a techno direction, with dubbed out chords reverberating through your mind, propelled by finely chopped loops of percussion.

B2. Levitate
This one is a DJ tool for those who want to add some human touch to their sets, with Cottrell playing alongside a simple electronic kick and hi hat loop for maximum dancefloor action, showcasing the finest in primitive rhythms
